A CPS Lives Residency partnering with Waters Elementary and the Waters field-based Ecology Program for grades K-8. Students from this urban school in Chicago participate in authentic field experiences, gaining scientific knowledge and deep appreciation for the natural world. The children were children-climbing, running, jumping and sliding through nature. The children however, were also artists, scientists, and ambassadors of the environment, quietly observing, drawing, writing and fully embodying the natural environment. I made portraits of these quiet moments as the students went about the business of being stewards to the environment.
